It Started on the Water
A few years back, a family fishing trip off the Gulf Coast turned into a lesson in everything that could go wrong. We had the rods, the bait, and a solid forecast. What we didn’t have was any idea whether the fish on the end of the line was legal to keep. A quick phone search gave us three different answers, none of which mentioned the specific zone we were fishing. We kept the fish. Turns out we shouldn’t have.
That night, scrolling through every fishing app on the market, the pattern was clear. Social feeds full of grip-and-grin photos. Basic fish ID tools that couldn’t tell a Gag from a Black Grouper. Regulation lookups that were either outdated or so generic they were useless. Not a single app that could take what we’d already caught, study the conditions, and actually help us make better decisions next time.
